TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL Venue: South Leeds Sport Centre Date: 19/3/08 Time: 13.00-15.30
On Wednesday 19th March Hunslet Hawks and Leeds Rhinos joined forces for the first time to create a festival to benefit the amateur game. The Hawks community coach, Seth Foster, came together with Leeds Rhinos Community team Jonny Wainhouse and Chris plume who are also both star players of the Hunslet Hawks! New pals Harry Hawk and Ronnie Rhino were also there to entertain and lend their support!!!
Seth, who has been delivering a coaching program to schools surrounding Beeston Broncos Amateur Rugby League Club commented, “The aim of the programme was to give the children a positive experience of Rugby, where they could have fun practicing new skills and also compete with other schools. Our aim was that many of these children could then join the Broncos and play Rugby League for their local team, this would be a massive boost to a club which is in the early stages of development. The opportunity to form a partnership with the Rhinos and get more boys and girls playing the game is great news!”
Jonny Wainhouse commented “The purpose of the festival was to put into practise some of the new skills that the students had learnt and how two professional clubs could come together to benefit the amateur game”
Around 20 primary schools from South Leeds competed and showcased their skills with the focus of the event being about children enjoying our great game whilst bringing together two old rivals to benefit the future of Rugby League. We’re sure it was a great success!
