Squad numbers divulged for the 2014 games

There was a wave of excitement across all the fans when the squad numbers of Hunslet Hawks were revealed. I could bet that every Hawk fan was eagerly waiting for this minute to know the positions in which the teams would be playing. Every year when the squad numbers are revealed a surprise awaits every fan with positions running up and down for different players. Although the reason for shuffling is not discussed in any of the official sites, the fans have their own versions of reasoning piping hot through their head. 2014 is going to be a great year ahead for the players and the fans alike. The Club Captain David March moves from 13 to 9, surprisingly, Danny Grimshaw moves from 6 to 13. The Coyle brothers take 6 & 7 positions with Danny Maun taking the number 4 shirt. STUART KAIN will be taking 1 and JIMMY…

So how did the losing team do?

All through the match, every Hawks fan was kept entertained to the ultimate core. Oh what an ending to the super match, and the later part just kept people at their seat corners. The modest Colyle who insisted that his fellow team mates did outperform him, was undoubtedly the man of the game! The game had everything, togetherness, drama, emotion and above all so much of spirit which could not be missed by a true fan. Although in denial to the promotion of super league, this level of elevation is such a warm welcome to the team. This type of victory will be rated very critical in long term. Oldham did show some splendid performance as well but nothing to take away from the Hawks! Until the last and final quarter, till tiredness and fatigue took over, Oldhams did show a defensive spirit. There were errors and penalties which were…

Epic championship!

At Headingley, the crucial drop goal was scored in the golden point extra time, post 6 minutes. It came as the best surprise ever after Liam Hood run ended by Tyson, George. Oldham player somehow kept the Hawks away from a jaw-dropping goal. There was a period of time in the game when one could not judge towards which team was victory more likely to glide. The 16-16 part of the game where the super player Danny’s judgement was crucial towards the games victory was the most critical point of the game. He passed it on to Coyle which turned the table, and Coyle was just too happy about the game having dramatic twists and turns. I just have to admit that this game was way more than dramatic than any other and kept every fan glued until the end. Danny could have repeated his previous stunt, but the biggest…

The winning team – revelation of true heroes!

With a whole bunch of rugby fans worshipping Coyle as hero of the match, Coyle in heights of modesty sharing the credit with his entire team, it all was epic when the Hawks emerged as champions. It was a moment for Hawks fans. Not because of how the players played alone, but they were lucky enough to witness excellent camaraderie on the field. It was almost the same kind of experience for all the Oldham fans as well. They saw the super defensive play by their favourites and the aggression with which each and every single player worked for the team! Young Danny of the Hunslet Hawks showed some splendid shots and also hid judgement as a player was splendid to watch! When the scores were almost locked at 16-16, Danny overcoming his temptations let Coyle handle the situation and it led the team to a dramatic victory. And Coyle…

Coaching the Huddlers! John Eaton!

He joined the club in 2012, start of the season. It was a great acquisition as he was already working as assistant coach and doing supremely well. He had a record of challenging and successful carrier with various rugby teams. He joined as head coach for Hunslet from Celtic Crusaders where he was already assistant head coach. Apart from having a triumphant carrier as coach he also had chances to lead the promotions for Keighley Cougars. Apart from his other commitments, he also coaches for the Welsh Under 19 team. He still remains to be the head coach for the Welsh team (under 19). Barry Eaton has had some great experience as coach. But he has had better rugby experiences playing for several teams including Dewsbury , Wakefield, Batley and Widnes. The best part is he understands the strengths and weakness of players from different teams as he has had…

The director of Rugby

Darren has been a Hunslet supporter since he knew of Rugby. He was appointed as the director of rugby in 2013 and has been running the everyday operations of the club successfully ever after. He has had a terrific carrier as payroll administrator and as pre press operator but he never seized to be a rugby fan. When he found his job monotonous and could not stand the redundancy any more all he could think of was participating in the day to day chores of the club. Oh what better could you expect from a lifelong Hunslet supporter. He volunteered for various roles, you name it and he had done at least a part of it starting right from kit man. Not to forget that he was the brain child of HISSA Squadbuilder organisation, that which was extremely successful. He has been quite involved with the game and has complete…

Good bye Coyle Brothers! (oct 2014)

One of the reasons i love the Hunslet hawks is not because i belong here. I love the team for its very different players and how well they come together as a team. A Couple of my very few favourites in the team are the Coyle brothers. Have always admired their maturity as players and how well they handle their goals and shots. The brothers have always fascinated me with their team spirit and how well they bind into the team. The Grand final championship match proved that Coyle was one of the best Hunslet has seen ever so far. The Grand final game was a treat to watch, how the HUnslet and Oldhams played beautifully not letting go of the defences each their own way. The final winning drop goal which was pulled off by Coyle spectacularly will be remembered by every rugby fan for another decade at the…

Reunion and Dinner for all former players? ( Nov 2014)

Coming November, there is news that a grand event is to be organized by the club. It will be an event that will be almost a benchmark for every other team who would like to see camaraderie among the team and its former players. One all these former players would definitely extend their support to the existing team which would definitely boost the team and its performance. Hunslet club and its director have been overwhelming with ideas to bring in the support of former players and supporters through various ways now. We all knew about the season ticket for all the league games being offered at discounted rates for former players. Now this is another feather onto their cap. A buffet dinner and reunion will be hosted at the Phoenix suite for the former players of Hunslet, all those ex-staff of Hunslet and importantly former coaches of the Hawks. This…
