Hunslet Reserves 14 Featherstone Reserves 34

Hawks Reserves started their League season in encouraging fashion with a much more committed and enterprising display following a hammering at Featherstone 2 weeks previous in a pre-season friendly.

Featherstone included fringe players Larsen Marabe, Aaron Dobek & Sam Smeaton and their experience told against a very young Hawks outfit.

The first half started poorly and Rovers opened up a 18-0 HT lead as the amount of possession in their favour eventually told.

The Hawks suffered injuries to Mike Kelly, Louis Stead & Nigel Scott with all 3 unable to return in the 2nd half leaving only 1 fit substitute available to rotate.

Ben & Joey Walkin were to the fore in the Hawks pack and Jake Wilson showed up well completing 80 minutes of hard work.

Colton Wray on debut following his midweek signing from Bradford Bulls added pace and invention in the middle of the park and looks a useful addition.

The Hawks finished the game playing some free flowing rugby in the final 20 minutes and ended the game on top although down to 12 men following Luke Lacy's dismissal after a fracas.

The young Hawks are next in action on Friday at Keighley Cougars.
